The first step to get a website online is to find the right name and to register it .There are lots of dedicated sites, resellers for that and you can have a look around and choose what you think is the best. Personally I registered my web site with GoDaddy, as it not only offers domains for lesser prices (I purchased mine for $8), Google apps is also a preferable reseller if you wish to use Google apps for your mail.Any how it doesn’t matter where you register your Domain name because basically, more or less the procedure is same to register a domain.
1. Log on to the website where you would like to register the domain( As I said i ll go with godaddy)
2. Search for the Domain which you would like to register
3. Check whether the domain you choose is available (Congrats if the domain is available for you to register) or else choose a different one (repeat step 2 for searching again)
4.Just proceed for further by add and proceed further and select the add on’s which you would like to go for else click on no thanks in the 2nd page
5. Fill the log on page to register (if you are not having an account with them) else log on to proceed for payment.
6. That is it now you own the domain you would like register.

There are now approximately 2.4 million .com and .net domains registered per month (Symantec). Sometimes, a recycled domain name is the best answer – expired domain purchase, auction, or private sale. You really have to be careful, though – some of these domains may have previously delivered malware, porn, or other questionable content. Make sure and do your homework and really research your domain on the Wayback Machine, Yahoo Site Explorer, and other resources. We’ve set up a free cheat sheet at http://siteriver.com/domaintest.php to help you conduct your background check. Just enter the domain you are researching and links are generated to help you quickly research a domain’s current status and past history.
